Spring time!

Spring officially arrived this weekend - yes the sun has come out but only very briefly and early morning it is still very damp and then it's cold in the evening.

In celebration of spring I bought some plants and we did the parable of the sower with the adolescent group, planting seeds and also giving them a plant to care for.
I shall have to go and visit their homes to see how they are doing!

Alpha Course Finale!

The first Alpha course in Jesus El Nazareno finished in August and another is planned for mid September. It was a very successful and encouraging time with new people and church members attending and a great sense of God at work in many peoples lives. The last session began with a meal of rice, potatoes and a hot sauce made with the yellow chilli, aji. We then watched the last DVD together, had a time for worship and testimony with the presentation of certificates. Several people had invited family members or friends and we hope they will come along for the next course.

The Holy Spirit joint retreat for four local Anglican churches was attended by only 5 people from El Nazareno, due the difficulties in leaving family and work, but the following week we did a resume and were able to pray for each person present and have a time of ministry which was very fruitful.

Pray for preparations for the next course especially for those who will be group leaders and help in other areas. I thank God that Alpha has really revitalised several church members who have a new fervour to serve and share their faith - Praise Him!

PS. New course started 21st September with some new people and others from church.
Therapy Room Inauguration - Shalom

On Saturday 26th August the disabled group Shalom celebrated the opening of the new therapy centre where many of the disabled children will receive regular therapy during the coming weeks. Mothers and volunteers helped to get the centre ready, painting and decorating and equipment was purchased, mats, therapy ball, carpet etc..

There was a brief programme of welcome, presentations and a biblical reflection from Ephesians 3 which was held in a nearby buiding kindly lent by the owners, then a group went over for the opening ceremony with prayers and blessing for this ministry.

There was then a time of sharing the variety of food contributed by the mothers and other invited guests. It was a also incredible that Beatrice Magowan, a retired nurse from the Uk who 5 years ago got the churches interested in ministry amongst the disabled, was present having arrived in Peru just the day before. We were also able to combine a birthday celebration for Beatrice and the centre's inauguration and all enjoyed a slice of cream and peach cake.

The therapy sessions are each Tuesday and Thursday afternnons with Ruth a Christian psyiotherapist and Frania from El nazareno church, also trained in this area. Please pray for them and other initiatives hoped to be developed with this ministry.
