Shalom Nursery Classes

Monday 9th March saw the begining of the nursery school "Palomitas' - little doves - for the youngest children in Shalom for their Early Stimulation classes and nursery lessons. There will be 9 children ageing from 10 months to 8 years with a range of disabilities. Luisa will head up the team and we have recently contracted Nelly a nursery teacher with experience in special needs. Rachel Hovenden, a volunteer from SAMS Uk will be joining the team next week, Rachel is from Tunbridge Wells and will work in the Shalom project until August.

Diocesan Youth Camp

The weekend of 6th - 8th March 70 of us gathered out of Lima for a youth camp focusing on the theme of 'Holiness'. Talks were based around friendship, falling in love, boyfriends and girlfriends and keeping themselves pure for marriage. It was a good time and this year we took teenagers and youth together but split them in two groups for the talks so they were relevant to their age and experiences.

We arrived quite late on Friday - evening traffic in Lima but had a meal and a session on self esteem and then Saturday was packed full with talks, reflections and some 'free' time when the swimming pool became the centre of attention, especially for throwing people in!

With a bonfire on Saturday evening the days activites finished well.

Sunday morning we had a Eucharist service which included a time to make a pact with God about keeping themselves pure. We had given each camper a ring which they were then able to put on as a sign of their decision.

Then followed games which included lots of water and alot of fun.
