Deacon's Week

During the first week of May we had a Deacon's week in the Diocese and the local deacons were accompanied by local lay ministers and also Deacons from USA, Cuba/Uruguay and Argentina. The first couple of days the visiting deacons were taken around our missions and parishes to find out first hand what we get up to on a daily basis. Then we had several days of teaching and spiritual input whih was very encouraging for me. It was good to have some space to relect and spend time with God and with others. There were also evening meetings for others in the Diocese and I took several young people from Nazareno to hear testimonies and teaching on the deaconate. It was a busy week but one where I felt God afirming the call to serve him in this place.

Mother's Day

Here in Peru we follow the USA date for celebrating mother's day, Sunday 13th. We decided to have a breakfast folowing the morning service and shared a feast of tamales, a traditional Peruvian parcel of corn and chicken wrapped in leaves. Sounds strange but actually it is very good, these were particulary tasty if I say so myself as I don't usually like them! Each mother received a gift and then there was a raffle of three shawls (gettting ready for the colder weather) won by Gaudencia, Angelica and Etelvina.

The young people helped serve, tidy and give out balloons.
