Wheelchair event

Once again Lima has been blessed to have a week long campaign to give out wheelchairs, crutches, walkers and walking sticks to people of all ages who live with disabilities. A team from the United States from the Joni Earikson charity 'Wheels for the World' joined 'Corazones Unidos' (United hearts) and local church volunteers to attend over 600 patients.

I have helped out 3 days with translating and was with the medical team which was very busy and quite emotional. The medic and nurses working were amazed at the conditions seen and treated some very bad wounds caused from permanent sitting or lying in one position. They were able to give supplies to carers in order to continue the treatment at home and guidelines on future prevention. I was surprised at the many patients who had lost limbs through diabetes and as always there were many Cerebral Palsy cases.
